Children's Day

こんにちは！Yuiです。

5月5日のこどもの日にちょっとしたイベントを行いました。

外国人の先生を呼んだのは、一昨年のクリスマス以来でしたが、みんな思っていたより自然にコミュニケーションが取れていて、成長を感じました(*T^T)

何より楽しそうで良かったです♪

3時間ひたすら遊び！

最初の1時間はフリータイム。

外国人の先生が来る前にルールの確認と自己紹介の練習。

普段のレッスンより長時間なので、

May I go to the toilet?

May I drink?

などのフレーズと共に、コロナ感染予防の為にトイレに行きたい時や飲み物を飲みたい時はどこでどうするかも確認。

2時間目からアメリカ人講師Rick先生登場！

一人ずつ自己紹介をした後、先生に質問タイム。

What's your favorite singer?

Do you have a pet?

Can you drive a car?

それから幼児、小学生グループに分かれて、Rick先生と遊びました。

外国では子供の日は6月1日の国が多いですね。5月5日は日本と韓国だけ。

Universal Children's Day(世界こどもの日)は11月20日だそうです。

”Children’s Day“

Children’s Day is a Japanese national holiday which takes place annually on May 5th, and it is part of Golden Week Holidays.

子どもの日は、5月5日に訪れる日本の国民の祝日で、ゴールデンウィークの一部です。

The purpose of the Children’s Day is to celebrate children’s happiness and to respect their personalities.

その日は、子どもの幸せを願い、個性を讃える日なのです。

The day was originally called “Tango no Sekku”, or Boy’s Festival, was celebrated in order to wish the healthy growth of the boys in the family.

その日はもともと『端午の節句』と呼ばれ、男の子の健やかな成長を願って祝う日でした。

端午の節句は、英語で表現すると”Boys’ Festival“や”Boys’ Day“となります。

ちなみに、桃の節句（3月3日）は、”Girls’ Festival“や”Girls’ Day“ですね。

鯉のぼり：koinobori, the carp-shaped flags, carp banners, carp-shaped streamers

On that day, families with boys raise ‘koi-nobori’, or the carp-shaped streamers outside the house, wishing their success in their lives.

その日には、男の子がいる家は、子の成功を祈って、家の外に鯉のぼりを飾ります。

兜（かぶと）： kabuto, samurai (warrior) helmet, ornamental helmets

五月人形：gogatsu-Ningyo, samurai dolls in armour, warrior dolls,　May dolls

They also display ornamental helmets called Kabuto or samurai dolls at home, because they are believed to be symbols of strength and vitality.

また、家には兜と呼ばれる飾り兜や、五月人形を飾ります。兜や五月人形は強さや生命力の象徴とされているのです。

柏餅（かしわもち）：Kashiwa-mochi, Mochi rice cakes wrapped in oak leaves

ちまき：Chimaki, rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves

Traditional foods such as ‘kashiwa-mochi’, mochi rice cakes wrapped in oak leavesand, and ‘chimaki’, rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves are eaten on that day.

その日には、「柏餅」、「ちまき」やという伝統食も頂きます。

It is believed that “kashiwa-mochi” is a symbol of prosperity of our descendants, and that “Chimaki” is a protective charm.

「柏餅」には子孫繁栄の、「ちまき」には厄除けの意味があると信じられています。
